Alberta Cricket Association's Minor Cricket Cricket league is a cricket competition that promotes maximum participation in a shortened, action-packed version of the cricket that can be completed in 1 hour.
The MCL program introduces children to cricket in a fun and safe environment. The program adheres to recommended Sport Canada guidelines for FUN-damental movement skills and Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L).
The MCL Program is designed for girls and boys, 6 – 13 years old, with focus on fun and maximum participation. Children can enjoy the process of learning and developing important physical skills such as throwing, catching, hitting and bowling, while improving balance, agility and speed. Official CC Kids coaches provide an open, fun and safe learning environment, employing cricket activities and interactive, engaging games that teach essential social skills such as teamwork and leadership. This positive experience for children, teachers, parents and volunteers fosters a passion for cricket and hopes to create a lifelong involvement with the game.
The format targets girls and boys who have grasped some of the basics of the game (9 – 13 year olds) but are still developing their skills. These competitions are a transition to protective equipment and a semi hard-ball or hard-ball dependent on the age and skill level of the teams.
WHERE IS MCL PLAYED?
MCL is played on a cricket pitch but is still played with shorter boundaries (30 – 45m depending on age and skills level) to allow children the fun of hitting 4’s and 6’s! With younger age groups the pitch can be shortened by using plastic stumps at one end and moving the crease closer to ensure bowlers are capable of delivering the ball in play.
