The Alberta Women Cricket League (AWCL) was formed in 2014, ACA became the first association in Canada to start a Women Cricket League. It was formed to create a platform to promote women’s cricket by launching games, tournaments, training camps and networking opportunities.
In the second year of AWCL’s inception we have been able to form 4 Alberta Teams playing AWCL game series which increased to 6 teams in 2017. Through AWCL, Many women from Alberta have had the opportunity to play for the national Canadian team showcasing their talent and honing their skills.
AWCL has been instrumental in bringing women’s Cricket to the forefront. The organization has been working tirelessly to bridge the gap facing women cricketers such as ground schedule booking, travelling costs, recruitment of players and logistics of organizing local and provincial events. Currently Women teams from Edmonton, Calgary, Fort McMurray and Medicine hat participate in Women Cricket league. Women Cricket League play their games in tournament format twice a year and ACA Provincial Women Cricket team participate in Provincial and National Championships.
Since 2014 growth of women Cricket is substantial and a vital part of Alberta Cricket. Alberta Women are Currently Defending Champions of Women National T20.
